Sunny Govan Community Radio, is inviting applicants for the position of Community Radio Outreach worker (36 hours per week). 

This is a 36-month post 

The salary is £25,000 per annum.

Responsible to: Development Manager 

 

Post begins 1st April 2024

 

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Community Radio Outreach Worker to join our team in our mission to connect with and serve the residents of our community (greater Govan G51).

 

As a Community Radio Outreach Worker, you will play a vital role in establishing and maintaining relationships with a diverse range of community members, promoting and providing Community Radio / media / audio production learning and development opportunities in a variety of community and community media projects, ensuring that the voices and stories of our diverse community are heard and amplified. 

 

Main Duties and Key Responsibilities: 

 

As part of the Sunny Govan Community Radio team you will work with and support local residents and the wider community to participate in a diverse full-time community radio station, you will do this by undertaking effective outreach activities which include providing radio skills training and workshops, grassroots engagement and capacity building work. You will support local residents to gain skills to access the airwaves, our broadcasting training opportunities and our on air facilities and help them take the lead, improve their skills and confidence and positively progress in their volunteering / development journey.

 

You will engage with a diverse range of community members to build trust, understand their needs, and establish relationships. You will operate in a range of community settings including, but not limited to local schools, community groups and rehabilitation centres, in which you will support and deliver a wide range of broadcast-related activities and training, including but not limited to: programming, audio production (live & pre-recorded), youth work & supporting participants with long-term health conditions.

 

You will organise and participate in community events, workshops, meetings, and gatherings to foster connections and identify individuals interested in participating in our projects and activities. Building relationships with new potential volunteers, training and supporting them to fully participate in and take ownership of a wide range of roles within the station

 

You will also support some ‘behind the scenes’ broadcast and non-broadcast operational activities including production, technical aspects, activity coordination, external partnerships, marketing and events. Identify, recruit, and support community members interested in participating in our activities and initiatives. Collaborate with local organisations, schools, and community leaders to extend our outreach efforts and recruitment

 

Provide support and guidance to participants in our projects, ensuring they have the resources and training necessary to contribute effectively to our activities

 Collaborate with our team to organise training sessions and workshops. 

Maintain records of outreach activities and participant information. Assist with work placements. Organise community engagement events in the community 

Prepare regular reports on outreach efforts and their impact on the community. 

Assist with promoting our org and services in the community and raising visibility of the station Assist with promotion of our activities and the station on our social media channels 

 

The successful candidate will be required to report on activities in a timely and comprehensive manner. 

 

Skills & Experience 

You will have extensive experience in the creative industries, preferably within community media

  • for community development

  • Knowledge and experience of co-production and collaborative working with volunteers in a media setting

  • Knowledge and experience of utilising professional broadcasting and audio equipment and audio editing software to produce high quality content remotely, at a location or in house.

  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation and project management skills

  • Knowledge and sensitivity to cultural issues and experience of working with marginalised people and communities 

  • Demonstrated experience of using own initiative to solve problems in a positive and proactive manner 

  • Proficient IT skills 

Desirable Skills 

  •  A knowledge and understanding of communities in Govan, Ibrox. Linthouse, cessnock and Kinning park 

  • Experience in dealing with community and voluntary organisations 

  •  Commitment to being environmentally friendly
