Join Our Team – Outreach Worker at Sunny Govan Community Radio

Position: Outreach Worker
Hours: 35 per week (flexible – may include some evening and/or weekend working as required to support community activities and events)
Salary: £25,000 per annum
Contract: 16 months
Status: Full-time
Location: Govan, Glasgow
Responsible to: Development Manager
Annual Leave: 28 days per year (including public holidays), pro rata for the duration of the contract

 

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Outreach Worker to join our team in our mission to connect with and serve the residents of our community. As an Outreach Worker, you will play a vital role in establishing and maintaining relationships with community members, promoting and recruiting for our learning and development opportunities and community media projects, and ensuring that the voices and stories of our diverse community are heard and amplified.

 

Main Duties and Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement

  • Engage with community members to build trust, understand their needs, and establish relationships
     

  • Organise and participate in community events, workshops, meetings, and gatherings to foster connections and identify individuals interested in participating in our projects and activities
     

Promotion of Community Projects

  • Act as an ambassador for our community projects, explaining their value and benefits to potential participants
     

  • Distribute promotional materials and information about our projects in the community
     

Recruitment and Outreach

  • Identify, recruit, and support community members interested in participating in our activities and initiatives
     

  • Collaborate with local organisations, schools, and community leaders to extend outreach and recruitment
     

Support and Training

  • Provide support and guidance to participants in our projects, ensuring they have the resources and training necessary to contribute effectively
     

  • Collaborate with our team to organise training sessions and workshops
     

Data Collection and Reporting

  • Maintain records of outreach activities and participant information
     

  • Prepare regular reports on outreach efforts and their impact on the community
     

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist with the recruitment and retention of volunteers from target groups and the wider community
     

  • Liaise with community organisations and establish new connections
     

  • Assist with work placements
     

  • Organise community engagement events
     

  • Work with our employability worker/trainer to help organise and deliver courses
     

  • Assist with promoting our organisation and services in the community, including raising visibility of the station on social media

 

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
     

  • Enthusiasm for community development and broadcasting
     

  • Experience working with marginalised or underrepresented groups
     

  • Ability to work independently and solve problems proactively
     

  • Strong organisational skills to manage multiple tasks/projects
     

  • Proficient IT skills (Microsoft Office, email, collaboration tools)
     

  • Ability to support and train participants and volunteers
     

  • Commitment to the aims and values of Sunny Govan Community Radio, including inclusivity, empowerment, and community development
     

Desirable:

  • Experience in dealing with community and voluntary organisations
     

  • Proficiency in languages spoken in the community
     

  • Experience in community radio/media
     

  • Full, clean driving licence
     

  • Previous experience in outreach, community engagement, or project coordination
