Sunny Govan secures £100,000 to support Scottish Hip Hop locally and nationally
Sunny Govan Community Radio is proud to announce that it has secured £100,000 in new funding to support the growth of Scottish Hip Hop at both a local and national level.
The funding comes through Culture Collective, a Scottish Government-backed programme administered by Creative Scotland. It is designed to empower communities through creative collaboration, support creative practitioners, build skills and community capacity, and strengthen local and national networks.
This major investment will help Sunny Govan build on its growing reputation as a key platform for Scottish Hip Hop, supporting both emerging and established artists across the culture.
The funding will back activity spanning all elements of Hip Hop, including breakdance, street dance, graffiti, street art, DJ skills, rapping, live performance, fashion and entrepreneurship.
Rooted in Govan, Sunny Govan Community Radio has become a powerful voice for grassroots creativity, community broadcasting and independent music. This new funding will allow the organisation to expand opportunities in its local community while also helping to build a stronger national platform for Scottish Hip Hop.
The investment will support artist development, creative participation, collaboration, skills-building and cultural exchange. It will create new opportunities for artists and communities to connect, develop their craft, share their work and build sustainable futures within Hip Hop culture. It will also help raise the profile of Scottish Hip Hop as a serious, dynamic and essential part of Scotland’s cultural landscape.
Steven “Steg G” Gilfoyle, Development Manager at Sunny Govan Community Radio, said: “This funding is a massive moment for Scottish Hip Hop. We want to support both emerging and established artists and recognise the full culture of Hip Hop in all its forms. This gives us the opportunity to build something rooted in Govan but with real national reach, real national relevance and real long-term impact.”
Sunny Govan Community Radio recognises that Hip Hop is one of the most important cultural forces in Scotland today — a movement that creates opportunity, builds confidence, develops skills and gives people a platform to be heard. This funding will help drive that work forward while contributing to the wider growth, recognition and future of Scottish Hip Hop across the country.
Further details on projects, partnerships, and opportunities to get involved will be announced soon
